Ed Daniels - Republican Candidate for Congress, 15th District

Ed Daniels has been a resident of New York City since moving here from North Carolina almost 40 years ago.  He has worked in the public sector for most of his adult life, beginning with his service to the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1975.  Working as a crew chief, Daniels spent two and a half years in Southeast Asia, completing two tours of duty during his time there.  He also served at Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada and with the United States Air Force Europe.

Upon Leaving the Air Force, Daniels began what would become a lifetime for personal service to veterans of the armed services.  He worked with the Veterans Administration as a clerk in the adjudication section.  He also spent a year and a half with the US Department of Labor as an Outreach Specialist for the Disabled Veterans Program.  He was tasked with developing and soliciting employment opportunities for disabled veterans who could not otherwise find work.  Daniels has also worked in the central office of Veteran's Affairs at the City University of New York's Office of Admissions Services.  There he exercised his skills in assisting veterans and their families in seeking educational and career opportunities and financial assistance in order to attend CUNY.

Daniels also spent three and a half years with the New York City Law Department, where he was assigned to the Affirmative Litigation section of the Appeals Division, researching, organizing, and filing cases for appeal.  He also spent five years with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority as a train conductor.  While there, he was shop steward to his local, working as a liaison between his co-workers and their union representatives, fielding concerns and issues of importance to the union membership.

Currently, Daniels is a small business entrepreneur working as a paralegal, specializing in disability and family court cases.  He continues to be an active veterans' advocate, working as a veterans agent representative.  He has been a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America for over ten years and helped establish two chapters of the organization - Manhattan Chapter 126 and Brooklyn Chapter 72.  He is also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans.  He serves on the Borden Avenue Veterans Residence Community Advisory Board, which oversees its functioning as a shelter and resource center to help homeless veterans get back onto their feet and into mainstream society.  He is a Member of the Veterans' Health Task Force Coalition that was formed to save the Manhattan and Brooklyn V.A. Hospitals.

Mr. Daniels has an Associates Degree in Political Science from Borough of Manhattan Community College and has taken coursework at St. John's University and Baruch College, where he studied pre-law and business practices, organization and development, respectively.  Daniels is a former vice-chair of the Title 1 program and member of the PTA and School Leadership Team at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School.  He has been the founder of two tenant's associations in buildings where he resided to focus on maintenance and safety issues and to improve the general quality of life for its tenants.
